Book Suggestions Wanted for New Govanhill Mural
Earlier this year, a new Govanhill mural was unveiled, bringing a splash of colour - and cultural heritage - to the neighbourhood. Now the team behind it want your ideas for a second mural, this time depicting a fantasy Govanhill bookshelf.

The second mural in the Govanhill Open Museum project is going to be painted on a wall on the corner of Hollybrook Street and Aikenhead Road. The project team have conducted a series of consultation sessions and engaged with residents online where countless ideas were shared about which parts of local heritage should be captured.
Artists Conzo Throb and Ciaran Glöbel, who were commissioned to paint two murals for the project, are having a challenging task trying to encompass all the ideas that have been shared, but they are now heading towards the end of the design process. You can expect to see some favourite local places and symbols, trades that have flourished here over the years, and many other ideas, including Govanhill-themed books.
They need some titles for the books that will be featured in our upcoming Govanhill heritage mural. What Govanhill specific titles would you like to see there? They can be books already published or yet to be written. Historical, fiction, comedies, guides, mysteries, poetry, comics, romance, food, self-help anything goes - funny or serious ideas welcome!
Govanhill Open Museum aims to showcase local heritage and make it accessible to everyone by taking it out to the streets, as well as contributing to the physical regeneration of the neighbourhood. The second mural of the trail is going to appear in the neighbourhood within the coming months, depending on weather conditions and improvement works being done to the building prior to the artwork being painted. Plans are also in place to turn the green patch in front of the mural into a civic space for the local community to enjoy.
